茶室のお話（３） 茶室は４畳半でないの？ [茶室]

というか、上のリンク先、意外と面白いです。ですが、押して頂けるだけでも本当に助かります。

茶室というと、４畳半というのが常識・・・・・ではありません。
今の茶室がそれがスタンダードとなっていますが、どうも調べるとそういうことではなさそうです。
そもそも、千利休の茶室 待庵 は2畳しかありません。使い勝手により次の間を使えば、3畳ほどでしたが、実際に2畳なんです。
初期のころはこのように、小さくても使い勝手と最小限で広く見せるというのが重なり、小さくなっていったようです。
それより前の村田珠光でも6畳茶室があったそうです。
広さの選択は、設計する茶人の考え一つだったのでしょう。
しかし、これが時代を経るにつれ、江戸時代のように、多くの客を招くこと、庭を見せることが必要となり、だんだん大きく、かつ茶室として独立した建物ではなく、部屋の中の一つのようになったのかもしれません。
釜の位置、そして開口部の光の取り方も、考え一つで設計されていました。
前にも書きましたが、「設計」を茶人たちがやっていたのですね。
