地震の震源地が深かったことが どうやら一番の理由みたいですね。
建物は豪雪地帯を意識して柱が太いとの事ですが、 これが一番の理由のようです。

前回の地震もそうだったのですが、古い伝統構法によって建てられた建物が多かったことが建物被害の少なさに関連しているようですね。（自分自身でも屋根工事業者に確認しました。）
うちの業界の古い形にうかがうと、
「日本の家というのは柔構造で地震の衝撃を吸収する。」

現に能登半島地震の際には、の方法で直された家が何棟もあるようです
